Innovative 'Plug & Play' Welding Cell

By COMAU

COMAU Robotics’ integrated robotised solutions provide maximum performance, flexibility and efficiency. Our industrial robotic technology represents state of the art mechanical design and ensures top performance in terms of speed, robustness, reliability and precision. Fast and easy to install, our robots are proven to increase performance and productivity.

One of the newest innovations from COMAU Robotics is the all-inclusive ATHOMO welding cell, a plug-and-play arc welding system that is highly flexible and extremely easy to use. ATHOMO is the result of COMAU's extensive experience in arc welding, and was designed to work in complex systems, automated lines, high through-put serial and parallel processes, or as a stand-alone unit.

The ATHOMO welding cell comes as a single unit consisting of two arc welding robots and one positioner that are pre-assembled and fixed to a rigid fork-liftable platform. Because the cell is pre-assembled as a whole unit, it can be easily moved from one station to another with no need for disassembly and reassembly operations. Used as a stand-alone welding cell, or integrated within more complex systems with increasing levels of automation, ATHOMO is fully modular and can grow in proportion to production demand. Simply add additional cells as production increases, or quickly transfer cells from one line to another as needed.

ATHOMO ensures both simplicity and process economy, given that it contains all the necessary components for immediate, out-of-the-box functioning. The primary strength of the ATHOMO system, in fact, is its "plug and play" flexibility. The system comes fully furnished with hardware, controllers, guards, loading and unloading stations, integrated PLC and more, and is managed by the new generation of C5G controller to enable real-time control of the welding process. As needed, COMAU can also customise the system with turnkey software and accessories to support unique application requirements.

What's more, ATHOMO delivers zero down-time for installation and configuration. The fully-integrated welding cell is ready to be plugged in and used as soon as it arrives on the manufacturing floor. ATHOMO can also be pre-assembled at the integrator's plant, which will mount the system on the double lathe, program the welding cycles and ship the fully installed welding cell to the final site. As the main parts remain intact, the system requires only commissioning and is ready to use from day one.

Whether standard or customised, ATHOMO is incredibly easy to use and delivers remarkably high levels of ergonomics, quality and productivity at a low overall cost of ownership. With straightforward maintenance and inspection procedures, virtually unlimited relocatability and scalability, and the possibility to integrate the system with specialised components as needed, the ATHOMO welding cell optimises performance and lower costs in both the short and long term.
