TRW Launches New Electronic Stability Control System

ABR Staff Writer Published 24 February 2010

TRW Automotive Holdings has launched its electronic stability control system (ESC) with an integrated inertial measurement unit (IMU) on the Lancia Delta, to perform discrete sensor data acquisition within the ESC electronics module.

The company said that it will produce an ESC with integrated IMU to reduce ESC system cost, number of modules in vehicle, and weight and wiring harness complexity. The integrated design also provides a solution for vehicle manufacturers offering both ABS and ESC braking systems within a model range.

TRW said that it has also developed an Airbag Control Unit (ACU) with IMU integration. The IMU integration options are based on common sensor development and are available to meet various vehicle architectures and platform requirements.

Josef Pickenhahn, vice president of braking engineering at TRW, said: “We are pleased to launch this advanced, integrated ESC system with the Fiat Group. As an electronics safety systems specialist, TRW has the depth of knowledge to offer our customers a full array of integration options and is relentlessly pursuing higher levels of safety and performance.”
