Toyota To Increase Hybrid Car Battery Production Capacity

ABR Staff Writer Published 16 June 2009

Toyota Motor is planning to increase the production capacity of its nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries used in its Prius hybrid cars.

The company plans to produce 1.1 million NiMH batteries in 2010, the Nikkei business daily reported.

Panasonic EV Energy, a joint venture between Toyota and Panasonic Corp, aims to install an additional line at its Omori Factory, and build a plant in Miyagi Prefecture, the daily said. Panasonic EV Energy supplies NiMH batteries to Toyata.

Toyota is going to increase the production of Prius to meet better-than-expected demand for the latest version of its top-selling hybrid.
