Toyota Motor Kentucky unit produces eight million engines

ABR Staff Writer Published 30 August 2010

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) has produced eight million engines, which include five-and-a-half million four-cylinder engines and two-and-a-half million six cylinder engines.

TMMK powertrain operations general manager David Cox said that eight million engines is a hard number for him to grasp, but to put it in perspective, if you placed them end to end, they would stretch nearly 2,800 miles - or from New York to San Diego.

TMMK employs about 6,600 full-time team members with about 900 of them dedicated to its powertrain facility.

TMMK currently produces three different engines, a 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine, a 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine, and a 3.5 liter six-cylinder engine.

The engines are used in all of the plant's vehicles it produces including Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon and Venza.

In addition, TMMK engines are used in the Sienna minivan and Corolla and its powertrain facility is part of a $5.3bn investment in Kentucky.
