Stagecoach to invest GBP60m in new green buses
Stagecoach UK Bus, a part of the Stagecoach Group, is planning to invest GBP60m to place initial orders for 390 greener buses and coaches.
The new vehicles will be used for local communities across the UK, and the company also plans to place more orders later this year.
The buses are scheduled to be delivered in the 2012-13 financial year, while the first bus is set to arrive in May this year.
All the vehicles will meet Euro 5 emission standards, which are in-line with the company's commitment to green transport and also produce 30% less carbon than normal buses.
The company said that during the last five years it had invested GBP370m in new vehicles for its regional bus operations.
The orders include the UK's first new 15-metre interdeck coaches which will be operated on the group's megabus budget unit.
Stagecoach UK Bus managing director Les Warneford said this recent multi-million pound investment is part of the group's commitment to give local communities good value and high-quality.
"With fuel prices so high and the cost of running a personal vehicle increasing, choosing smarter, greener bus travel is making even more sense," Warneford said.
