Selected Sierra Wireless remote monitoring and upgrade services for long-term maintenance of in-car telematics systems
Sierra Wireless has said that the PSA Peugeot Citroen, an automotive technology company, has signed a contract to use its device management services for the remote monitoring and software upgrade of future model cars equipped with Sierra Wireless-based telematics technology.
Sierra Wireless claims that its device management services provide PSA Peugeot an improved way to monitor and upgrade the software of vehicles in the field.
The company said that the device management services provided to PSA Peugeot are part of its M2MOperatingPortal, a secure M2M services platform suitable to manage such remote operations.
Emmanuel Walckenaer, senior vice president and general manager of solutions and services at Sierra Wireless, said: "After a long selection process, including in-depth technical evaluations by PSA on real prototypes, we are extremely pleased to have been selected to develop the automotive group’s remote monitoring and maintenance capabilities."
Several new car models were reportedly being equipped at the factory with vehicle telematics systems which enable consumer-oriented features such as navigation, assistance and remote diagnostics.
