Opel To Unveil New Models At Geneva Motor Show

ABR Staff Writer Published 10 February 2010

Opel is all set to introduce it's new models including Meriva, a new concept car, the Ampera electric vehicle and new Corsa at the Geneva Motor Show, which starts from March 4, 2010.

The Opel Meriva is a monocab segment car offering a new FlexSpace system. It also introduces FlexDoors, a rear-hinged rear doors which facilitate access to its cabin, an interior storage space enhanced by a concept of center console and FlexFix system, and an integrated rear bicycle carrier which is stored like a drawer under the luggage compartment. It will come with a choice of 5 and 6 speed manual transmissions and also 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The new concept car is said to combines design, using green technology and alternative propulsion, to be an environmentally efficient vehicle.

The extended-range electric Opel Ampera is a five-door, four-seater, which is scheduled to go into production late 2011. It has the same design as Astra and Insignia and also uses a new electric propulsion technology - Voltec. The Voltec uses electricity as its primary power source and later, gasoline as a means to generate electricity. This helps Ampera overcome the issues related to limited range of pure electric cars.

According to Opel, the new Corsa has a reduced fuel consumption of about 13%. It offers a range of low carbon-emitting gasoline and diesel engines, including 98g 1.3 CDTI engine Corsa ecoFLEX model. The powertrain line-up consists of a gasoline engine from 1-liter 3 cylinder (48 kW/65 hp ) entry level version to turbo charged 1.6-liter on Corsa OPC (141 kW/192 hp). On diesel side, different versions of 1.3 and 1.7 CDTI motors offer outputs ranging from 55 kW/75 hp to 96 kW/130 hp, all with fuel consumption under 5 liters per 100 kilometers.

Alain Visser, vice president of sales, marketing and aftersales at Opel/Vauxhall, said: “Opel is driving innovation and environmentally responsible propulsion in Europe and wrapping it in stylish, expressive design. All of that will be on display in Geneva.”
