Nissan, Toyota Boost Small-Car Output In Europe, Hire Temporary Staff

ABR Staff Writer Published 17 June 2009

Nissan Motor and Toyota Motor are employing short-term factory workers in Europe to boost production of their small car, the Nikkei business daily reported.

Nissan hired 150 temporary workers in May at its Sunderland factory in north England, and hired another 100 workers in June on a four-month contractual basis.

Toyota is hiring temporary workers in France and may have 250 of them by the end of June. The company will use them to make 7,000 more units of its small car brand “Yaris”.

Nissan would use the extra workers to manufacture 18,000 more units of its compact car “Micra”.
