ABR Staff Writer Published 30 June 2009

Company’s global production declined 54.6 % in May

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (Mitsubishi) has reported a fall in its global production for May 2009. The company’s total global production for this month came in at 44,902 units, a decline of 54.6 % over May 2008. This decline was the 15th consecutive monthly decrease since March 2008.

Its production volume in Japan at 24,793 units was down 60%, as a 65% decrease in passenger car output saw year-on-year fall for the seventh consecutive month, the company said.

Overseas production volume totaled 20,109 units, down 45.5% over May last year and the 15th consecutive monthly decline. By region, output in North America was 100% down, as all production has been halted owing to slow sales in the US.

Mitsubishi's May vehicle sales in Japan decreased 21.9% year-on-year, the 21st consecutive monthly decline since September 2007.
