Lexus unveils LF-LC hybrid sports concept in Detroit

ABR Staff Writer Published 10 January 2012

Lexus, a luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Toyota, has unveiled the new LF-LC hybrid concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, US.

The new two-door, four-seat LF-LC comes with a front-engine, rear-wheel drive and the company said that the new concept featuring Advanced Lexus Hybrid Drive delivers both driving performance and fuel efficiency.

The new 2+2 sport coupe design concept's twin 12.3-inch LCD touch screens will allow the driver to operate the controls following the line-of-sight and its center console touch screen controls the audio system, climate controls and navigation.

The interior of the LF-LC concept vehicle contrasts advanced technology with soft textures and organic shapes to create a driver-focused synergy of form and function.

The company said that the driver is enveloped by deeply scooped side panels and a high, curved console, focusing on the driver zone on the controls and on the road.

The new hybrid also equips L shaped daytime running lights and the vertical fog lamps that utilize a fading dot matrix pattern to suggest a sense of movement.

Lexus plans to launch nine new or updated vehicles and three F Sport models this year and subsequently plans to release new versions of the midsize GS sedan early this year.

The technical details of the LF-LC hybrid concept were not revealed at the show.

Lexus group vice president and general manager Mark Templin said the concept the company is showing in Detroit continues its design revolution started with the CT and GS.

"The concept hybrid 2+2 liberates the idea of a sport coupe and pushes the boundaries of performance, style and technology," Templin said.
