Kyushu, DENSO to develop information distribution system using EV charging stations

ABR Staff Writer Published 18 January 2012

Japan’s Kyushu Electric Power and DENSO, an automobile parts manufacturer, are jointly developing a system to offer information distribution services with the use of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The two companies had been developing the system from March 2011 for creating a low-carbon society by increasing the use of EVs and promoting regional development in Fukuoka, Japan with the use of the city's information database.

The system development involves the incorporation of Kyushu Electric Power's EV charging station technologies and DENSO's information device and telecommunications technologies.

The new system will enable the in-vehicle information devices and mobile information devices in EVs to communicate with EV charging stations connected to the Internet and provide users with information services.

The company said that the system will use event information, tourist information and disaster prevention information and other information offered by Fukuoka City and information provided by Kyushu Electric Power's group companies.

The two companies will carry out demonstration experiments from the end of fiscal year ending March 2012 through fiscal year ending March 2013 and will consider commercial applications depending on the obtained results.

Prior to the demonstrations, Kyushu Electric Power will present a demo system at its exhibition booth at the Fukuoka Motor Show 2012 from 27 January 2012 to 30 January 2012.
