Hyundai Looks To Setup Diesel Engine Plant In India

ABR Staff Writer Published 09 June 2009

Hyundai Motor India is planning to establish a diesel engine plant close to its existing car manufacturing facility near Chennai, India.

The company said that car sales have increased in India, as per the May results. However, the South Korean automaker has opined that the government would have to avoid raising excise duty if they want the market to recover. Any increase in excise duty could neutralize the recent gains.

H.S. Lheem, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor India, said: “We have initiated a feasibility study for setting up a diesel engine plant.”

The company expects the Indian operations to post a 15% increase in revenues during this fiscal year, from $4 billion in 2008.
