Hella plans automotive lighting parts plant in Mexico

ABR Staff Writer Published 10 February 2012

German automotive part supplier Hella is planning to open a new facility spanning 215,000sq ft to produce automotive headlamps and rear lighting systems in Irapuato, Mexico, later this spring.

The new plant located in the state of Guanajuato will produce approximately 1.2 million headlamps and 1.5 million rear combination lamps per year.

Hella plans to invest over $97m in the new facility, which is slated to open in June 2013.

In addition, the company is also expected to start a 9,000sq ft design and development center for lighting technology in Guadalajara, Mexico in March this year.

The company will also add a 15,000sq ft more space at its Guadalajara manufacturing complex in June.

With the addition of these facilities, the company will be able to increase its production capacity in the Americas for headlamps from 3.7 million to 4.9 million, and from 2.5 million to 4 million for rear combination lamps.

Hella said the new facilities are expected to increase the company's spread in Americas for primary manufacturing.
