ABR Staff Writer Published 19 January 2012

Group 1 Automotive, a US-based automotive retailer, has acquired Rod East Volkswagen dealership in San Antonio, Texas, which will be renamed Volkswagen of Alamo Heights and is expected to generate $48.5m in estimated annual revenues.

The company said the latest acquisition will augment its existing Freedom Chevrolet dealership in the San Antonio, Texas market.

Group 1 Automotive chief executive officer Earl Hesterberg said the acquisition will make the fourth Volkswagen franchise the company has added to its diversified portfolio during the last 12 months.

The company owns and operates 110 automotive dealerships, 142 franchises and 28 collision centers in the US and the UK that offer 31 brands of automobiles.

Through dealerships, the firm sells new and used cars and light trucks, arranges related vehicle financing, service and insurance contracts, in addition to providing automotive maintenance and repair services, and selling vehicle parts.
