Ford India Opens New Dealer Facilities
Ford India has opened 28 new authorized Ford dealer facilities in 24 cities to enhance market availability and service facilities for its full line of vehicles, taking the total dealerships to 164 facilities across India.
The company said that the new facilities have been opened in New Delhi, Sangrur, Haldwani and Gwalior in the North; Durgapur, Dhanbad and Guwahati in the East; Hyderabad, Chennai, Warangal, Vellore, Salem, Vijayawada and Malappuram in the South and Bilaspur and Mehsana in the Western region.
As part of the expansion, the company has opened showroom in the East Delhi Metro Rail Station. It also opened new showrooms and workshops in Jaipur, Thane, Ahmednagar, Pune, Vapi, Ahmedabad and Cochin.
According to Ford, after a $500m investment which doubled annual production capacity to 200,000 units, the Chennai manufacturing facility will produce Ford models at the plant for export to international markets. The plant is also being groomed to produce diesel and petrol engines for local vehicle production and export within Asia Pacific and Africa region.
Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India, said: “Growing our dealership base, building strong business fundamentals and getting closer to our customers are areas of high priority as we gear up to launch our new Figo and enter this high volume segment in 2010.
“We have opened new facilities in 13 Tier III cities today, and more than 40% of Ford service outlets are now located in secondary markets.”
