Balqon Rolls Out New Battery Management System
Balqon, a developer and manufacturer of zero emissions heavy-duty electric vehicles for Class 7 and Class 8 applications, has rolled out its new battery management system (BMS) designed to optimize battery cycle life of large format lithium-ion batteries used in its product line of heavy-duty electric trucks and tractors.
The company said that each BMS board is equipped with multiple temperature sensors and a flash microcontroller together with it's proprietary software that works with any electric vehicle’s battery cell chemistry.
Balwinder Samra, president and CEO of Balqon, said: “Our battery management system incorporates a society of automation engineers (SAE) J1939 controller area network (CAN Bus) capable network which allows seamless communication between the different components of our electric vehicles, such as our automatic transmission, charger and proprietary flux vector inverters.
“This development increases our ability to utilize data from the key components of our electric vehicles more intuitively during charge and discharge cycles, and thereby increase the energy efficiency of our vehicles.”
Balqon uses flux vector control technology to design propulsion systems for 10 to 50 ton capacity vehicles and material handling equipment. It’s current product line of tow tractors are designed to transport containers at ports, marine terminals, rail yards, warehouses, intermodal facilities, military bases and mail facilities.
