Audi Unveils Next Generation A8

Audi said that it is bringing the next generation vehicles of A8 series to the starting line. The new flagship demonstrates Vorsprung durch Technik with its light aluminum body, new engine, improved MMI control system and an enhanced interior.

The A8's fuel consumption of each of the engines available has been reduced by as much as 22%. The 3.0 TDI with front-wheel drive to follow later emits only 159 grams of CO2 per kilometer (255.89 g/mile) and with 6.0 liters of fuel per 100 km (39.20 US mpg), it improves fuel economy in the luxury segment.

The new luxury sedan is expected to arrive at dealerships in early 2010. Its body is made up of an aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF), weighing about 40% less than a comparable steel structure.

The Audi A8, when combined with an optional navigation system, its Multi Media Interface MMI includes the MMI touch. This MMI touch system enables the driver to control functions intuitively. MMI navigation plus is networked with the advanced driver assistance and safety systems. It reads road ahead in the navigation data and provides this information to control units for automatic transmission, headlights and refined Audi adaptive cruise control with stop & go function.

According to Audi, new A8 will initially be offered with either of two engines, a 4.2 FSI with 273 kW (372 hp) and a 4.2 TDI, packing 258 kW (350 hp). These will be followed by a 3.0 TDI with 184 kW (250 hp), which is a new design. The output and torque of all engines have been increased.

Rupert Stadler, chairman of Audi, said: “The new Audi A8 is the sportiest sedan in the segment. It combines numerous functions in a new and intelligent way. And it is unmatched in the stylistic elements and impression of the interior.”
