German prestige car maker Audi has once again shown its popularity in its domestic market by sweeping a number of awards in the "Auto Trophy 2005" poll carried out by leading German motoring magazine Auto Zeitung.
Audi, the luxury arm of Europe's biggest car maker Volkswagen, enjoyed a triple win in Auto Zeitung's poll, with a further two models coming home in silver medal position. The Audi A6, A8 and Q7 picked up three of the year's most coveted awards. The A3 and A4 both finished as runners-up in their categories.
Readers were able to choose from a total of 372 models in 25 categories this year. Journalists at the Auto Zeitung magazine, which is published in Cologne, counted more than 90,700 votes.
The Audi A8 picked up 32.9% of votes in the luxury class, almost twice as many as the runner-up. This was the A8's third win in a row, following first places in 2003 and 2004. An even higher percentage of the vote went to the A6, which finished top of the executive class for the second year in a row: 34.4% of all voters chose it as their favorite. The runner-up in this category finished almost 15 percentage points behind the A6. The new Q7 was another winner for Audi, this time in the SUV category, capturing 15.3% of the vote.
Audi also scored well in the Image Report. According to 51.2% of readers polled, Audi has the best advertising. The Audi brand has now won 29 Auto Trophy awards in the poll's 18-year history.
