Renault S.A. (Renault) is a French automaker producing cars, vans, buses, tractors, and trucks. It engages in the design, development, manufacture, and sale of automobiles worldwide. The company’s key area of operations includes France, the U.K., Spain, Germany, India, Italy and Greece. The company provides its services in more than 120 countries. The company operates its business through the Nissan and owns the Dacia and Samsung Motors brands. As of December 31, 2007, Renault had a stake of 44.3% in Nissan, which has a 15% stake in Renault; holds a 20% equity interest in AB Volvo; has a 99.4% stake in Dacia; and 70.1% stake in Renault Samsung Motors. The company also has a joint venture with Mahindra & Mahindra, Ltd. for the mid-sized sedan car, Logan, in India.
The company operates its activities through two business divisions namely: automobile and sales financing. The company through the automobile division designs, produces and markets a range of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, including the Clio, Megane and Laguna. The sales financing division of the company is complementary financial and commercial arm. It manages a number of financing subsidiaries for sales and services as well as cash management for Renault. Its RCI Banque has about 60 subsidiaries and supports development of the company itself as well as that of the bi-national Renault-Nissan group.
